"I love you"
What a silly phrase
Everyone says it
But very few know the true meaning behind it
I guess they want to say it,
Feel like they NEED to say it,
Simply to know someone cares,
At least a little
But how can you pick the real from the fake?
You can't
It's impossible
That's a fact
The fakes are chipper,
Always happy,
While the real smile,
Seem happy…
But it's just an act
They're dying inside
They just don't want people to know
For then they would seem weak
And they've felt weak their entire life,
Because no one knows the true dangers of love
Because no one's strong enough to talk about it
If they were,
People wouldn't long for it so much
They would run away
Far, far away
When you're in love,
It tears at your soul
It eats at your body
Consuming cell after cell
Until you can't take it anymore
You scream
You cry
You bury yourself in blankets
Not because you want to,
But because you have to
These are the people you need to fear
Who may appear weak on the outside,
But can crush lead inside,
Not because they exercise,
Or take care of their body,
But because they survived
And surviving love is one of the hardest obstacles in life
So if you ever come across a person like this,
They may seem fine,
But there is dying underneath
Fear them
With all your life
For damaged people are most dangerous,
Because they know they can survive
This was written while I was visiting Latvia with a group of amazing people, and even though I love them to death, I was just feeling EXTREMELY alone and depressed. I personally am not a fan of the ending, but I had to end it, and this is what came up. I would love to hear your views on it though!

Comments/Critique much appreciated! Any kind...not even kidding

Thank you for submitting to the Critique Folder at :iconwriters--club:! :la:

The opening lines of this piece were both interesting and attention grabbing; people say these words to family members, lovers, and even friends so often without truly thinking of the magnitude that goes with them.

This poem was well presented and made for an interesting read; some portions of it seemed to flow a bit roughly, but it was still a good poem! Keep up the good work! :la:

I wasn't too keen on this piece until the very end couplet.
'For damaged people are most dangerous,
Because they know they can survive'.
My gosh, that is just gold.

I almost skipped over this poem thinking it would be just another about the happy 'love'; the one that isn't painful. The one that isn't as true.

It's ironic, because I've written those in the past, without knowing what love is.

But I'm glad I read this poem, it takes a different approach. =)

I like this. But I don't agree with it.

Here is why.

Every human being has scars, and has been in some way or another 'damaged' therefore it's EVERYONE we should fear according to this. While it's true we should probably fear most people....Love is still something that is very much in the human condition. We can't live without it yet many of us would probably have been less scarred without it. I don't think anyone ever truly 'survives' love. Because love changes almost everyone. Without being dramatic I'd say a little part of everyone dies, especially when they love someone and it totally hurts them. Love also magnifies small things often to a great big extent while turning other things that used to matter into things as tiny as Ants. With love people tend to lose their inhibitions. I don't know why I made this long comment. It wasn't supposed to be this long. :P but yea. Good writing.

Wow! I love it... especialy the ending! lol

I think I know what you mean. I know a few people who have gone through so much, and have survived it all that you just have to wonder strong are they? It's a bit scary and a bit sad...

To this i must say that those that survived scorns of love or atleast what may have seemed like love but not true love can still feel the lingering guilt and pain. to which i must say that some can survive it others on the other hand have it different. otherwise an okay peice and it does make one valid point...How can you tell fake from true? all the same good work

For once I see poetry with quite a lot of honesty in a poem about love. Broken hearts are also Maddened souls. I love the fact that you used rather raw honesty with this. Don't let go of that.
